About Golf Weather Intelligence

Golf Weather Intelligence (GWI) is a free site built to answer one question: when is the best time to play golf?

Why we built it

Most golfers check the same weather app they use for everything else. Those apps are built for the whole day, not for four hours on an open course. They'll tell you there's a 30% chance of rain and 15 mph wind. They won't tell you whether that rain arrives on the 4th hole or after you're back in the parking lot, or whether the wind picks up just as you make the turn.

GWI started in Dallas–Fort Worth, where a beautiful spring morning can turn into an afternoon thunderstorm and summer heat can make a 1:00 p.m. round miserable. We wanted one place that scores the weather for an actual round of golf and then shows which tee times are open in that window.

What GWI does

How we keep it honest

Forecasts come from Open-Meteo, which draws on models from national weather services. Course maps use OpenStreetMap data. The GWI score is calculated the same way for every course, and no course pays to rank higher.

Some links on the Golf Deals page are affiliate links, and the site may show ads. These help keep GWI free, and they never affect weather scores or which deals we list. Our privacy policy and affiliate disclosure explains this in full.

A forecast is never a guarantee. GWI is a planning tool. Always check conditions on the day you play, follow your course's alerts, and get off the course if you hear thunder.
